Certifications

Sadly, California does not require home inspectors to by licensed or certified. At Certa-Spec, we hold our inspectors to a much higher standard. Each Certa-Spec inspector is certified by not only one, but two property inspection organizations:

		The Global Association of Professional Inspectors and Contractors (GAPIC) strives to provide the very backbone that will be the foundation for superior home inspections throughout the domestic world. The GAPIC Standards and Practice, which lays a clear outline for home inspectors to follow, is a beacon of clarity that cuts through the chaos caused by an unregulated industry. GAPIC has been designed by members of the Construction and Home Inspection Industries. It simultaneously provides a high standard of quality that any home buyer can feel assured by, as well as guidance and protection to home inspectors.
		The International Association of Certified Home Inspectors, Inc. (InterNACHI) is the world's largest, non-profit inspection association. They provide hundreds of hours of training to inspectors, an inspection forum with over a millions posts, and a blog keeping inspectors up-to-date with the latest changes in the industry. InterNACHI turns down more than 60% of the inspectors who want to join InterNACHI because they can't pass their Inspectors Exam, and turns down 90% of those left because they can't fulfill their membership requirements.

 

Every Certa-Spec inspector is required to:

1. Pass InterNACHI's Online Inspector Examination in order to join, and every year of membership, with a score of 80% or better
2. Complete InterNACHI's online Ethics Obstacle Course
3. Take InterNACHI's online Standards of Practice quiz
4. Sign and submit an Affidavit
5. Adhere to InterNACHI's Standards of Practice
6. Abide by InterNACHI's Code of Ethics
7. Continue learning by taking courses (24 hours per year), per InterNACHI's Continuing Education Policy
8. Maintain their Online Member Continuing Education Log, per InterNACHI's Continuing Education Policy
9. Submit four mock inspections (if the inspector has never performed a home inspection for a fee) to InterNACHI's Report Review Committee before performing their first fee-paid home inspection for a client
10. Apply for a membership photo ID within the 10 days after joining
11. Log in to the Educational Forum on the InterNACHI Message Board within 10 days after joining
12. Complete InterNACHI's comprehensive, online Safe Practices course, including all its quizzes, within 30 days after joining
13. Complete InterNACHI's comprehensive, online Residential Standards of Practice course within 30 days after joining
14. Complete InterNACHI's online 25 Standards Every Inspector Should Know course and pass its final exam within 30 days after joining
15. Complete InterNACHI's comprehensive, online Residential Plumbing Inspection course, including all the quizzes within, and pass its final exam within 45 days after joining
16. Complete InterNACHI's comprehensive, online Residential Electrical Inspection course, including all the quizzes within, and pass its final exam within 45 days after joining
17. Complete InterNACHI's comprehensive, online Roof Inspection course, including all the quizzes within, and pass its final exam within 45 days after joining
18. Complete InterNACHI's comprehensive, online HVAC Inspection course, including all the quizzes within, and pass its final exam within 60 days after joining;
19. Complete InterNACHI's online Structural Inspection course within 60 days after joining

22. Complete InterNACHI's comprehensive, online Attic, Insulation, Ventilation and Interior Inspection course, including all the quizzes within, and pass its final exam within 90 days after joining
23. Complete InterNACHI's comprehensive, online Deck Inspections course, including all the quizzes within, and pass its final exam within 90 days after joining
24. Complete InterNACHI's comprehensive, online Moisture Intrusion Inspection course, including all the quizzes within, and pass its final exam within 90 days after joining
25. re-take and pass InterNACHI's Online Inspector Examination again, every year
26. Complete InterNACHI's online Green Building course, including all the quizzes within, and pass its final exam within one year after joining
27. Complete InterNACHI's comprehensive, online Wood-Destroying Organisms Inspection course, including all the quizzes within, and pass its final exam, within two years after joining
28. Complete InterNACHI's online Mold Inspection course, including all the quizzes within, and pass its final exam within two years after joining;
